Fyodor Pavlovich Zvonarev

Fyodor P. Zvonarev was born in the outskirts of Voronezh, Russia, in 1929. He remembers always wanting to be an artist. Like many artists in that city, he started his art career by working at the Voronezh Theater, then moving on to studies in Yeltsei and in St. Petersburg. After graduation he moved to Lipetsk, where he worked as an artist for the musical theater. Soon, however, spending most of his time on designs for the theater tired him. He yearned to leave the theater in order to work exclusively as an easel painter, which in 1961 he did.

Only landscape interests Zvonarev as subject matter. He investigates the changes in landscape at different seasons and times of day, and experiments with painting techniques. Traveling has proved a great stimulant for this painter. He has spent months at a time around Lake Baikal and has camped in Altai at Lake Sopky, splitting rations with the local bears. He enjoys painting the Taiga.
Since joining the Artist's Union, Zvonarev has been visiting the Academic Dacha close to Moscow as often as possible. Artists gather at the dacha from all over the former Soviet Union in groups of thiry at a time, which is how Zvonarev met artists from Vladimir whose distinctive style made an impression on him; their liberal use of paint and interpretative way with color encourage him further in that direction.

Fyodor P. Zvonarev's paintings are collected throughout Europe and the United States by museums and individual collectors.
