Yuri Leonidovich Frolov

Yuri Leonidovich Frolov was born in1925 in the city of Ryazan. He completed an art school education before the war, and by the end of the war in 1944 he entered the Moscow Surikov State Fine Arts Institute. He studied in the painting department specializing in easel painting. Beginning in 1951 his works were extensively shown at the All Union Republican and Zonal art exhibitions.

together with three other artists Yuri Frolov went onto to his first artistic trip in 1954. The artists travelled to Chukotka and The Valley of Geysers in Kamchatka to depict the scenery. The North captivated the artist and became Frolov's focal theme. He travelled to Chukotka and Kamchatka over ten times between 1954 and 1977. There he created numerous works showing the severe life of the North and its hard-working people. The painting "Children of Chukotka" that Frolov created during his very first trip was shown in several exhibitions around the country.

Yuri Frolov's work as an artist was noted in the press. Articles about his work and illustrations of his paintings were published in the magazines "Ogoniok" (Little Flame), "Deti Severa" (Children of The North) the newspapes "Moskovskaya Pravda" (Moscow Truth), "Krasnoe Znamya" (Red Flag) and Moskovsky Khudozhnik" 9Moscow Artist) among others.

Yuri Frolov was awarded several government awards, numerous diplomas and certificates of honor. In 1933 Yuri Frolov became a member of the International Art Fund.

The artist's legacy is part of the collections of several museums. His paintings are part of the collection of East Kazakhstan Regional Museum of Art, Kokchetavskaya Art gallery, Voronovsksaya Art gallery, Shuysky Regional National History Museum, in the reserve stock of the Union of the Artists, The Ministry of Culture and private collections.
